About this project

Sound Transit is extending its light rail transit to connect our City and Federal Way. The extension will go from Angle Lake Station to the Federal Way Transit Center, covering about 8 miles.

Project benefits

Light rail extension

Within SeaTac, Sound Transit is adding half a mile of raised guideway that will cross International Boulevard and continue to South 211th Street. That guideway will continue at street level along Interstate 5. It will then leave the City through a tunnel under the South 216th Street Bridge.

In addition to the light rail crossing at International Boulevard, Sound Transit will also build a State Route 509 bridge crossing under International Boulevard.

New stations

The expansion will also add three new stations at the following locations:

  • Kent Des Moines (near Highline College)
  • Star Lake
  • Downtown Federal Way

Street improvements

This project affects City streets, so Sound Transit is offering to make improvements in construction areas. They’re replacing sidewalks, streetlights, and drains; and moving utility lines underground.
