Teen Police Academy

The SeaTac and Burien Police Departments, together with the King County Sheriff’s Office, offer a Teen Police Academy to help young people learn what police officers do and what it takes to become one.

What you’ll learn

You’ll get to explore a bunch of exciting topics, including:

  • How patrol officers work
  • What SWAT teams do
  • How K9 units help
  • How 911 operates

We’ll provide transportation for all field trips. On the final day, we’ll celebrate with a graduation ceremony for all participants, their families, and friends.

Who can join

The academy is free for teens who are:

  • 14 – 17 years old
  • In good standing at school and in the community
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Able to attend all five days

You must also have your own transportation to and from the academy.

How to apply

Space is limited, so apply early. You can download and print the Teen Police Academy Application(PDF, 786KB) or pick up an application at either the SeaTac or Burien Police Department.
