Community Emergency Response Team

Want the skills to help your neighbors during an emergency? The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) can train you how to save lives, reduce injuries and protect property.

About CERT

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training empowers community members with the skills needed to save lives, reduce injuries and protect property during emergencies.

On a typical day, emergency responders are highly trained and equipped to handle incidents. However, following a large-scale disaster, first responders may be overwhelmed due to widespread damage, communication failures, or impassable roads. CERT teaches you how to provide emergency assistance safety and effectively until trained responders arrive.

CERT Basic Training is an 8-week program consisting of one class per week and concludes with a hands-on disaster simulation designed to practice the skills learned throughout the course. Skills taught include:

  • Fire safety
  • Disaster medical operations
  • Light search-and-rescue operations
  • Disaster psychology
  • Disaster preparedness
