The City of SeaTac Public Works Department is progressing with the design of an overlay project at the following four locations:

Location 1:  Des Moines Memorial Drive (between South 136th St and South 145th St), South 144th St (from DMMD to 20th Ave South), and 18th Ave South (from South 136th St to the end of the street),

Location 2: South 188th St, from Military Rd South to Tukwila City Limits,

Location 3: Intersection of South 216th St and Military Rd South, and

Location 4: South 170th St – International Blvd to 31st Ave South.

Project Goals

This project will be divided into two separate tasks as detailed below.

Task A: Overlay work

Work entails resurfacing the asphalt roadway at the four locations listed above. Generally, the City plans to perform a 2-inch grind and overlay. In some areas, existing pavement conditions might require full-depth removal and replacement of the existing asphalt. The existing pedestrian facilities will be updated as needed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Task B: Stormwater infrastructure upgrades

Work at Location 1 will include replacing catch basins with manufactured treatment devices, installing a compost-amended vegetated filter strip, and repairing non-functional storm pipes.

Stormwater retrofit work at Locations 2 through 4 will be on a case-by-case basis.

Project Benefits
  • New asphalt overlay of streets.
  • New stormwater conveyance and treatment infrastructure.
  • ADA-compliant pedestrian facility improvements.
  • Traffic signal upgrades.
