Proposed Speed Humps Vote on S. 148th St (Military Rd S to 24th Ave S)

In late 2022, he City received a complaint from a resident who lives on South 148th Street regarding excessive speeding along this segment of roadway.  After collecting traffic data and conducting an engineering study, the City found  that speeding levels were sufficiently high to justify adding speed humps to this roadway. Refer to the 'Proposed Speed Hump Locations Map" below that shows where the improvements will be installed. Traffic data, engineering findings, and plans for the proposed speed humps can be viewed using the links below.

In order for the City to move forward with constructing the speed humps, at least 60% of residents that would be directly impacted must vote to approve.  Only resident addresses identified by the Vicinity Map shown below will have the opportunity to voice their opinion on the proposed speed humps.  The City will be mailing voting forms and return envelopes with instructions for voting.  For votes to be counted:

1. The voting form must be completely filled out and include a 'Yes' or 'No' vote, signature, printed name, and address of the individual submitting the vote.

2. Votes must be returned to the City by the date specified on the voting form; and

3. Votes must be returned to the City by mail using the return envelope provided.

If residents vote to approve these improvements, City staff will move forward with developing a small works contract for this work.  At this time, the City cannot provide a timeline for these improvements to be installed.  However, schedule updates would be provided through this web page.  City staff estimate that the actual construction work would take about two to three days to complete.

The proposed work was previously rejected in July of 2024.  However, it remains eligible for an annual re-vote as long as a resident from the affected community expresses interest in doing so.
