Have you heard about the State of Washington’s Organics Management Laws?

First: Many businesses are now or will soon be required to separate organic waste from the garbage. This includes food scraps, yard waste, and food-soiled paper like napkins, paper take-out boxes, and greasy pizza boxes.

Second: These laws have a set timeline. As of Jan. 1, 2025, businesses creating 4+ cubic yards of food and yard waste per week must subscribe to compost service. By Jan. 1, 2026, businesses creating 96+ gallons of food and yard waste per week must subscribe to compost service. Learn more at: Ecology.WA.Gov/OM-law-businesses.

Third: Recology, the SeaTac solid waste hauler, is here to help! We can help you find out if or when you need to subscribe to compost service, offer FREE signs and stickers, staff training, and more to make the service set up easy! Call or email us today: 206.859.6700 or RKCwastezero@recology.com

Fourth: SeaTac business and multi-family properties get benefits! Starting June 1st, 2025, SeaTac commercial/multi-family properties can receive two 96-gallon compost carts serviced weekly at no extra cost. By keeping organic waste out of the garbage, you may be able to reduce your garbage service and overall waste bill.
