  • Rental Housing Protections

  • SeaTac has created new rules around rental housing agreements between renters and landlords. The rules were adopted by the SeaTac City Council on April 11, 2023, and take effect on May 17, 2023.

    The new rules:

    • Require landlords to share information with renters – see the “Renting in SeaTac Guide”.
    • Regulate renter fees charged by landlords.
    • Require landlords to tell renters well in advance (120+ days) of a big increase in rent.
    • Prohibit an increase in rent for an uninhabitable unit.
    • Allow renters on a fixed income to adjust the date rent is due each month.
    • Allow a landlord to request a social security number from a renter. If the renter does not have a social security number, the landlord cannot require it.
    • Require a landlord to have “just cause” before evicting a renter.

A full copy of the new rules in SeaTac are available in the ordinance adopted by the SeaTac City Council are here: Ordinance 23-1009. You can also take a look at the new regulations in our SeaTac Municipal Code (4.05).

    Renting in SeaTac Guide

The new rules require landlords to provide a Renting in SeaTac Guide to all residential tenants. This handbook provides information regarding the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants and provides details on just cause evictions.
