This property is located at 15211 Tukwila International Boulevard, on the southwest corner of the intersection of South 152nd Street and Tukwila International Boulevard. The property is currently paved and used for parking. The property is owned by the City of SeaTac.

In July of 2024, the Planning and Economic Development Committee recommended that the City explore options to create a community space on this property. On September 10, the City Council passed a motion directing the City staff to explore creating a community space on this property. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Updates

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Public Works Operations staff installed 3-hour max parking signs and signs with a QR code linking to the City’s website explaining the need for the changes to the parking lot. Additionally, temporary "no parking" signs were placed to restrict parking during Jan. 14 and 15 so the work can be completed. Prior to work starting on Jan. 14, caution tape and cones will block off the parking area so painting and additional signs can be installed. Flyers are also being placed on cars parked in the lot to alert them of the temporary parking restrictions and asking them to plan accordingly.

Improvements Overview

The City is planning an upgrade to the property located at the southwest corner of the intersection of South 152nd Street and International Boulevard (15211 International Boulevard). The property is owned by the City of SeaTac and is currently used for parking.

The property will continue to provide free parking for nearby businesses for up to 3 hours. Upgrades will include new painted stalls and directional arrows, parking signs, and wheel stops.  These upgrades will improve traffic flow on the property, increase awareness of the 3-hour parking limit, and encourage safe parking.

The 3-hour parking limit is in response to complaints received about overnight and multiple-day parking in this lot, limiting customer access to nearby businesses. Three hours allows adequate time for visits to adjacent businesses and prevents parking abuse.

This use of the property is temporary. The City Council approved a recommendation to develop this property for community use in the future; however, the City has no final development plans at this time. Both businesses and residents will be kept informed of the City's plans as they are developed.

Here is the proposed layout design for interim parking and traffic flow.

The City expects to complete improvements before December 31, 2024, but completion will be dependent on dry weather.

Timeline

1. One week in advance of planned work, the City will notify users of the parking lot. All vehicles will need to be removed within three days of the notice.

2. Three days before work begins, the parking lot will be closed, and any remaining vehicles will be towed from the site at the vehicle owner's expense.

3. Striping and signage installation are expected to take two days and will be performed once pavement conditions are acceptable.
