City Manager Weekly Update February 19, 2021

Greetings,

I hope you and your family are doing well after the record snowfall landed in our City just last weekend. I am very proud of our City Staff who worked 12-hour shifts to keep our major roadways clear throughout the large storm.

Vaccine shipments delayed due to severe winter weather across the U.S. In King County. This delay will impact most vaccination appointments scheduled for Friday to Monday, February 19-22.

You may have noticed the huge plume of black smoke coming from the southern portion of our City along International Boulevard. The smoke came from a two-alarm commercial fire. Learn more by clicking here.

There is an important notification for Recology Customers who live in SeaTac.

There has been some major construction activity occurring in the southern portion of our City due to a Sound Transit Link Rail extension and the extension of State Route 509 from I-5 to 24/28th.

Another major project is our stormwater program. You have the opportunity to provide us your thoughts and concerns regarding how we manage stormwater in the City.

Speaking of projects, King County Metro seeks community input through route to recovery survey.

The SeaTac Parks Department has a project too with the public being allowed to purchase  a paver tile  at the Veterans Memorial.

Now that King County is in Phase 2 of the Healthy Washington reopening plan, the Parks Department has more offerings at the SeaTac Community Center.

Contractors should be aware that there is a new Washington State Building Code.

Gov. Jay Inslee on Friday signed House Bill 1368, which appropriates $2.2 billion in federal funding that has been allocated to states in response to the ongoing COVID emergency. The legislation takes effect immediately.

Public Health — Seattle & King County continues to offer multiple jobs for the COVID-19 response teams. View listings and apply online if a role meets your interest and qualifications. If COVID work is not your thing, King County offers other jobs available among its multiple agencies.
